Why I Decided To Rename & Rebrand
Sep 5, 2017
Change.
It was really that simple. I needed a fresh start.
I started blogging way back in 2010 as Creative Index. (If you made the jump from over there, thank you!) :) It was just a place to catalog my thoughts and connect with other creatives. There was no real thought behind the name and I definitely didn't think of it as a brand”... it was just my little corner of the web to ramble on and play with blog designs.
During one of my blogging ruts, I decided to open my Society6 shop. I had some prints I designed so I thought I would create an account and sell them to make some extra money! (If you’re unfamiliar, Society6 helps independent artists sell their work. S6 will print/ship items for you and you get a % of the sale.) I didn't have any real expectations and my first 3 months I only made $36! I thought about throwing in the towel, but I didn't. I just kept swimming ;)
I shifted my focus to my shop and eventually fell off the blog bandwagon. I noticed the blogging climate changing - every one seemed to become a blogger/designer/influencer overnight and it just wasn't fun for me anymore. Fast forward a little. I kept adding more designs and promoting on Instagram and it took some time, but I saw my sales growing little by little each month.
Seeing my little shop blossom over the past 2 years has been so rewarding..... and encouraging! It also had my heart is eager for change.
I thought about it long and hard and finally decided I needed to move on from Creative Index. After brainstorming names inspired by nature and the ocean (my list literally had 100 ideas), the name Union Shore was the one that stuck. The husband liked it and I wanted it to have a cute coffee shop vibe. (That might sound silly, but I’ve always wanted to own a little coffee or ice cream shop or little boutique near the beach.) So that’s the new direction for this little site + shop of mine - beachy modern..... and who knows, maybe I’ll have a brick + mortar one day! ;)
So what's the plan?
+ Design more paper + home goods.
+ Continue to grow and expand my shop.
+ Re-connect with other bloggers & creatives.
+ Get back into blogging.
I’m excited to let Creative Index go and start on this new journey as Union Shore.

If you’ve been following me since my Creative Index days, thank you!
If you’ve bought/blogged/pinned/tweeted about my shop, thank you!
And if you’re new around here, hello! :)

So glad to hear from you again! Here's to a new adventure
ReplyDeleteHey! I followed over from Creative Index. I've always loved your design + vibe and Union Shore is a mega win. I could totally see it being a brick & mortar someday! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what lies ahead! Love the new design, branding, and reading about your freshly ignited passion!
ReplyDeleteAwww!!! What a great story, love!!! Your new name does sound like a coffee shop, hehe! I can see you opening your own coffee shop one day and selling your designs within your shop too. It'll be one of those "Instagrammable" coffee shops!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you kept going! Stay in your lane and focus on doing what YOU love. It's easy to get burned out when watching what other people are doing. It happened to me and I let it stop me. You're too gifted to stop! xo
